About TBA

Members

Thank you for visiting Traditional Baduk Association. TBA was founded in the year 2000 to share our Traditional Baduk system with people in the U.S.A. and throughout the world. Baduklife.com will serve as a bridge between non-Baduk practitioners and Baduk practitioners to spread "the right way of Baduk." And, furthermore, TBA will certify each Baduk practitioner for their appropriate skill levels. As we all know, Baduk was not only a game, but a developing tool for mental cultivation. This leads to the cultivation of discipline, which allows the person to better his or her life.

TBA will work very hard to spread this message to the public.

Art of Baduk

Baduk was considered a part of martial arts in ancient times. The ancient warriors studied Baduk to improve their mental conditioning. Baduk practice will increase your ability of better concentration, focus, and understanding of the principle of strategy. The great Art of Baduk was developed along with Martial Arts and Eastern Medicine in Korea, Japan and China.

Baduk (also known as Go) is an ancient Eastern strategy practice game that is directly related to Traditional Martial Arts. Played with white and black stones, its fundamental principle is the concept of balance and harmony: Yeum Yang (also known as Yin and Yang.) Traditionally played in Korea, China, and Japan, Baduk’s influence has recently spread to Europe and North America.

Baduk is not merely a game of strategy, it is also a mental discipline and philosophy that provides several benefits to students. It can increase concentration, awareness, and patience. More importantly, however, it teaches courtesy, respect, discipline, and self-control.

Traditional Baduk has been an integral part of Martial Arts Education. In fact, Baduk is ranked just like the Martial Arts, from 18th to 1st grade, then from 1st Degree (Dan) to 9th Degree (Dan). Nowadays, however, few schools ever teach using the 18th grades; it is far more common to see 12 or 10 grade systems, usually starting at white belt and then progressing through the ranks to black. Also, a distinction should be made between traditional Baduk and professional Ba Duk. Whereas the traditional method is part of philosophy and Martial Arts training, the professional method is a sport and an occupation where competitors often compete in prestigious title matches. Rank by the traditional method is based on skill, the professional ranks are acquired through experience or ones "track record."

Concept of Practice

Our Philosophy is to bring a traditional baduk education back to the world.  Traditional baduk, martial arts, and eastern medicine were tied together, in ancient eastern societies, through the concept of Ki (also known as Chi, Qi).  Ki is translated to mean "life force" or "vital energy".  This ancient, natural and philosophical mental exercise was used to stimulate mental abilities and promote an individuals' mental health and discipline.  Also, the ability to develop better focus, judgment and improved wisdom is attained through the philosophy of baduk.  This site is designed to help beginners, all the way up to expert levels.  TBA provides a positive influence to develop the proper way of baduk throughout the world.
